My Favorite Places to Work Remotely in Tulsa

Posted on November 15, 2023 by corinnegaston91@gmail.com

Looking for a place to cowork in Tulsa? Here are the top places that will keep you and your laptop coming back.

Tulsa is a small, but mighty remote worker hub that’s been growing in popularity in the past few years. Remote workers who are tired of working from their dining room table and visiting digital nomads alike find themselves spoiled for choice for places to cowork, as the city offers a variety of traditional coworking spaces and welcoming cafes with free WiFi and outlets to charge your laptop.

Here are my favorite places around the city to set up shop with my laptop and notebooks that I think you’ll love too.

The Williams Lodge at the Gathering Place

Gathering Place, 2650 S John Williams Way, Tulsa

This cozy, multi-level facility is free to the public and invites you to get comfortable in one of the many chairs or sofas, while giving you an incredible view of the park through the glass windows. There is a quiet room with a long solid wooden table that’s perfect for setting up your laptop and even a monitor. The Gathering Place has free WiFi, free bathrooms, and a cafe downstairs where you can grab coffee, tea, snacks, and ice cream. Whenever you need a work break, you can take a walk down to the pond, take a twenty-minute kayak excursion during the summer and fall, or chill by one of the fireplaces during the winter. Open seven days a week to all!

Chimera Cafe

212 N Main St, Tulsa, OK 74103

This vibrant and vegetarian-forward cafe is located on the edge of the Downtown Arts District across the street from the coworking space 36 Degrees North. This is my favorite spot for morning writing sessions and for running into friends and acquaintances. It’s usually too busy for me on weekends, but I find myself drawn here on weekdays all of the time. Outlet plugs are sparse unless you’re sitting along the walls, but there is a vast room in the back with plenty of room to get comfortable and work. Enjoy a loose leaf tea, a Buffalo cauliflower burrito, and the unfailing indie and soft boy R&B tunes while you work on that report or business plan.

36 Degrees North – Basecamp

36 E Cameron St, Tulsa, OK 7410

36 Degrees North is a well-known and active coworking space in the Arts District of Downtown Tulsa. Grab a spot at one of the floating desks in the front room, a nook near the kitchen, or a seat on the sofas in the sunny room in the back. The space is great for meetings due to its numerous conference rooms and six phone booths. They host roughly a dozen lectures, networking events, and professional development workshops each month, including a weekly happy hour for you to connect with others in the ecosystem. Their second location, 36 Degrees Camp II, is much quieter if you need a place for deep work. The 36 Degrees Incubator houses local, high-growth startup offices in City Hall and isn’t open to the public. However, if you know someone there, they can get you in on a day pass. The views of Downtown Tulsa from their floor are not to be missed!

Not a member at 36 Degrees North? Stop by for one of their free coworking days or ask your friend with a membership to let you use one of their guest passes.

Topeca Coffee (Downtown)

110 N Elgin Ave Suite 120, Tulsa, OK 74120

Topeca is an open space on the ground floor of Vast Bank across the street from ONEOK Field. I usually buy my coffee beans here and will occasionally do some light work and answer emails at the long counter. It comes complete with plug-ins if you need to keep your computer charged. People are moving through the space all day to head to the bank, the offices, or one of the restaurants in the building, so it’s great for networking with other folks who happen to sit at the work counter while waiting for their coffee or Uber.

She Brews

1 N Lewis Ave, Tulsa, OK 74110

This Kendall Whittier cafe is a sunny, inviting spot to sip coffee, knock out some emails, and support a good cause. She Brews hires formerly incarcerated women as part of their training program and assists them in finding housing, employment, and mentorship. It’s also a great spot for informal meetings and writing groups, as long as you don’t mind the chatter in the background. Free WiFi, of course, and a simple, straightforward menu.

The Central Library and Illūm Cafe

400 Civic Center, Tulsa, OK 74103

Tulsa’s Central Library is an exceptional and completely free space that serves the Tulsa community–remote workers included. Don’t have your own laptop? No problem. The library offers plenty of computers with internet access. They also provide many study rooms for one or multiple people and have conference rooms you can book online for free. The Central Library is an ideal place for deep work, and now it offers refreshments and a cute space for coworking through its new concept: Illūm Cafe.

Illūm Cafe was opened this year by Onikah Asamoa-Caesar, the founder of Fulton Street Books & Coffee, the only Black-owned bookstore in Tulsa. The cafe brings 21 flavors of lemonade, light meals, and a free plant propagation wall to the space. That’s right: once you finish your work and your lemonade, you can take a free plant home with you.

Only downside of coworking at the Central Library? No free parking on site.

Collaborative Coffee

4532 E 51st St, Suite E, Tulsa, OK 74135

This coffee shop serves up strong espresso drinks flavored with their homemade syrups, pastries, and crafted cocktails (for later, of course). Collaborative Coffee offers a clean, comfortable, and unexpectedly spacious area to work and take one-on-one meetings in the heart of Tulsa, which is perfect for anyone looking for an alternative to the Downtown scene. It’s tastefully decorated and you can find a snug corner or spot on the high top counter to work for hours undisturbed.

Nordaggios

8156 S Lewis Ave, Tulsa, OK 74137

Looking for another place to get you out of Downtown for a bit while you work remotely? Head south to Nordaggios. It doesn’t look fancy on the outside, but the inside of this South Tulsa haunt is remarkably rustic and hipster, complete with burlap sacks as decor. If you buy a bag of coffee beans, they may offer you a drink on the house. Pull up a chair by the fireplace to read or get some work done during the winter months. It’s a small space, so go during their slower hours to make sure you have enough room to set up.

The Root Coworking

110 S Hartford Ave Suite 100, Tulsa, OK 74120

The Root is another Downtown Tulsa coworking space, like 36 Degrees North, with options for floating desks, dedicated desks and offices. The exposed brick and notably absent fluorescent lighting is a welcome and calming atmosphere. Thirsty? Head to the kitchen for free coffee and flavored sparkling waters on tap. They offer a variety of memberships and a day pass if you want to try it before you buy it. Still not convinced? Stop by for one of their free coworking days and enjoy free parking in the lot outside.

Check out their stylish second location across the street from Mother Road Market.

Notion Espresso

321 S Frankfort Ave Suite 3B, Tulsa, OK 74120

Notion Espresso is an underground cafe that looks more like a chic, industrial art gallery than a place to get a drip coffee, but it delivers on its caffeinated beverages and is always a welcoming space. It’s a favorite study spot for local students, and Notion offers artfully crafted coffees, sandwiches, and salads that will keep you energized while you knock out your quiet work or update the website for your business. Fair warning: Notion Espresso is a bit of an echo chamber and there is limited cell reception, so I don’t recommend working here if you need to take any calls.

WOMPA

3306 Charles Page Blvd, Tulsa, OK 74127

WOMPA is an artist loft and office space with communal living and common rooms just a few minutes west of Downtown Tulsa. I worked out of here for a couple months for a change of scenery and found myself creatively inspired by the space. WOMPA will satisfy your inner artist with its immersive and vibey communal work spaces. Grab a cold brew on tap and post up at the kitchen table or at one of the desks or mini living rooms situated tastefully in nooks around the building.

The office set up is not as robust as a traditional coworking space like The Root or 36 Degrees North when it comes to amenities like printing, for example, but it makes up for that with its eclectic decor and friendly members.

Fair warning: if you become a member, you WILL receive a lot of texts about the facilities and events.

Honorable Mentions

Hodges Bend

Hodges Bend was a bespoke cafe and bar in the East Village with a speakeasy aesthetic and hearty menu featuring locally-roasted coffee, signature and classic cocktails, brunch, and dinner. This was my favorite day-to-night haunt to cowork, fuel up on strong coffee, and catch their Monday jazz nights once I was finished for the day. There was always room for remote workers to get comfortable in one of the large, comfortable booths and take in the French vintage vibes.

Unfortunately, Hodges Bend experienced a devastating fire in September that gutted it along with neighboring acclaimed restaurant Lowood. If you’d like to support their rebuilding effort or support the staff who suddenly found themselves out of work, go to Hodges Bend’s website here.

Fulton Street Books & Coffee

Fulton Street Books & Coffee is a black-owned cafe and bookstore that quickly became a staple in the Tulsa community. Fulton closed its location in The Heights (to my personal devastation) and is in the process of opening a much larger location on Black Wall Street that should be open before the end of the year. We’re not sure exactly what the new space will look like, but if it’s anything like the original location, it will be a more spacious version of the friendly neighborhood cafe I’d frequent every other week to grab a London Fog or Americano.

Additional Downtown and Cherry Street Cafes

I would be remiss not to shout out Black Wall Street Liquid Lounge, Foolish Things Coffee, and Doubleshot as three more Downtown coffee shops worth a visit for coworking. Black Wall Street Liquid Lounge has a cozy space in the back that’s great for studying or chatting with regulars. Foolish Things is roomy, well-lit, and is on the quiet side. Doubleshot is a bustling two-floor cafe that lends itself to group meetings. Want to go somewhere new(ish) outside of Downtown? Summer Moon opened on Cherry Street and welcomes coworkers all day. Try their signature Moon Milk.
